The Crime Prevention Unit is staffed by two officers who report to a Patrol Lieutenant designated by the Patrol Captain. These officers work a variable schedule, primarily in the daytime. Additionally, one of these positions is occupied by the department’s Explosives Detecting K-9 Unit. Responsibilities include development and presentation of safety, security and prevention programs and brochures and close interaction/liaison with residential halls/Greek life, various faculty, staff and student departments and organizations. Crime Prevention is also responsible for juvenile operations, victim/witness operations, crime analysis, the development of community policing strategies, problem-oriented policing strategies, crime prevention programs and other duties as assigned.
