While investigating reported crimes, MUPD officers refer individuals to a number of resources and organizations. Below is a list of some of the organizations that MUPD officers refer to survivors along with a web page listing each organization’s resources:
- VICTIM’S RIGHTS: For information on victim’s rights in Boone County call the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office at 573-886-4100. The Missouri Attorney General’s Website offers free brochures and other information on this topic.
- MU Office of Institutional Equity: Helps students, faculty, staff, and visitors get the support they need if they experience discrimination.
- RSVP CENTER: Services are confidential and include basic crisis intervention as well as ongoing case management and advocacy.
- TRUE NORTH: A comprehensive domestic and sexual violence victim service program. The services provided are designed to empower those who have been battered or abused by an intimate partner, enabling them to begin the healing process and work towards regaining control of their lives again. It is the only residential facility for victims of domestic and sexual violence in Boone County. Services include emergency shelter, domestic/sexual violence education, hotline, court and hospital advocacy, and counseling.
- MU COUNSELING CENTER: Assists students in learning to cope with emotional, social, and academic concerns interfering with their success while at MU. Services include individual psychotherapy; group therapy; couples counseling; crisis intervention; psycho-educational workshops; outreach presentations; consultation with students, faculty, staff, and parents; and psychological and educational testing.
- EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM: MU employees may take advantage of the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). The UM System’s EAP is a confidential, professional service provided to all employees, their families, retirees, and organizational work units. The EAP provides a variety of services to help employees influenced by a range of personal concerns or stressors.
- UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL S.A.N.E. CLINIC: The University Hospital has specially trained nursing staff that can conduct an exam following sexual assault/rape. These are Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE).
- BOONE COUNTY PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE VICTIM SERVICES: This website offers information regarding Boone County’s Victim Response Team, local resources, and services provided in Boone County.
- MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY CRIME VICTIM SERVICES UNIT (CVSU): Provides guidance to not-for-profit agencies and local and state governments on practices and policies that impact crime victims, and provides funding, training, and consultation to help communities develop programs to serve crime victims. This activity also includes assisting victims who encounter difficulty accessing services or who believe they have been deprived of their statutory or constitutional rights. Additional activities include notification and assistance to victims whose offenders are scheduled to be released from custody or have an upcoming court hearing, or informing them of the service and the status of their protection order.
- MISSOURI VICTIM AUTOMATED NOTIFICATION SYSTEM (MoVANS): A fully automated, information notification system that immediately notifies registered users upon a change in an offender’s incarceration and court status.
- VINELink: An online resource that allows you to search for information regarding an offender, case, or protection order. It is provided to you as a compliment to the existing MOVANS service in your area.
- EX PARTE (TEMPORARY ORDER OF PROTECTION): An order of protection can help to protect yourself or your children from someone who is abusing or harassing you. It can help set limits by requiring the abuser to stay away from you or your home.
