Campus Safety Officer (CSO) Program

The Campus Safety Officer (CSO) Program, which is also overseen by the Staff Lieutenant, consists of part-time civilian employees, many of whom are MU students. CSOs fall under the Events Staff title and are required to work certain special events throughout the year. However, in accordance with university regulations, they are not permitted to work more than 28 hours per week. The number of CSOs employed by the department varies throughout the year.

CSOs serve the university community by assisting in the mission, goals and objectives of MUPD. Duties include providing security and traffic direction for campus events (sporting events, concerts and more)  and providing overnight security for residence halls. CSOs have multiple responsibilities and report to a CSO Squad Leader. CSOs build useful skills in leadership, public relations and communications. Hours are flexible and allow for student employees to work around class schedules and exams.
