Officers receive training to remain compliant with Missouri POST continuing education requirements and are encouraged to attend training to further their skills. MUPD also has an in-house fitness facility to ensure our employees stay mentally and physically fit.
As a Police Officer with MUPD, you will have full powers of arrest in accordance with Missouri Revised Statues, additionally holding City of Columbia commissions and a mutual aid agreement with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department to assist with enforcement throughout the county as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizen
- Missouri resident
- 21 years or older
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Missouri drivers license
- Missouri POST Certified
- Must not have been convicted of a felony or class A misdemeanor.
Patrol Officer Shifts:
- First Shift: 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.
- Second Shift: 3 p.m. – 11 p.m.
- Third Shift: 11 p.m. – 7 a.m.
